Penetanguishene

The Bussineau geneology website posts A.C.Osborne's 1901 article "The Migration of the Voyageurs from Drummond Island to Penetanguishene in 1828". This describes the reinforcement of the naval base at Penetanguishene by a detachment of the 64th Regiment and 75 Voyageur families.

Buried Treasure contains a brief history of Penetanguishene, founded for its excellent harbour and secure location.

Original Texts and Writings on the Mission

The Relations or published reports of the Canadian Jesuits in 71 volumes. Each year, the Superior at Ste. Marie wrote a report summarizing day-to-day activities at the mission with emphasis on spiritual successes and difficulties. These were sent to Quebec then passed to the Provincial in Paris. Eventually they were edited and published for the public to read.

E.J.Pratt's Brebeuf and his Brethern is an evocative historical poem describing the mission's history from its beginnings.
