Toronto 1810
This model is a work in progress. It is intended to suggest
how Toronto looked in 1810. The town was still new and had yet to
suffer the damages of the 1813 American invasion.
Toronto (York) was laid out on a grid west of Parliament St. then
straggled east. A "new town" was soon planned west of
St. Lawrence market. To the north the land was surveyed for estates
that stretched from Queen St. to Bloor. The population was about
630 and there were about 100 houses.

There is a wealth of research available on Toronto's early history,
but we are still looking for information on which houses were located
on which streets and for details about the architecture. We invite
viewers to send us
comments about any aspect of York in 1810 to help make this
model more accurate.
